AI regulation is moving quickly. New rules and proposals are emerging across the UK, EU, US, and beyond, and most organisations are finding it hard to keep up. We help leaders in the UK, Europe, and globally — across every type and size of organisation — stay on top of what is changing and use their voice to shape sensible rules.

Keeping up with AI regulation

The pace of change in AI regulation is hard to track if it is not your day job. The EU AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024, with key obligations applying in phases through 2025, 2026, and 2027. The UK is taking a sector-led approach with regulators issuing their own guidance. The US is layering federal executive action with rapidly evolving state-level rules. Other jurisdictions are following.

We help organisations cut through the noise: what is changing, what applies to you, what to prioritise, and what to ignore. We can do this as a one-off briefing for your board or executive team, or as an ongoing horizon-scanning service.

Influencing the rules

Lobbying is sometimes treated as a dirty word, but there are legitimate reasons why organisation leaders should seek to influence national and international rules on AI and data. Regulation almost always lags technological change, and law-makers genuinely benefit from hearing from people who use AI in the real world. If organisations engage from the standpoint of what is good for society, rather than narrow self-interest, they help produce better rules and a healthier market.

We have experience building government relations functions from the ground up for both private and not-for-profit organisations. We advise clients on how to share their real-world insights with policy-makers and regulators in a way that is constructive, credible, and consistent with their values.

Frequently asked questions

When did the EU AI Act come into force?

The EU AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024, with obligations applying in phases. Prohibitions and AI literacy duties applied from February 2025; rules on general-purpose AI from August 2025; and most remaining obligations, including those on high-risk systems, from August 2026, with some embedded in product safety regimes following in 2027. We recommend you take your own legal advice on the specific timing for your organisation.

Does the EU AI Act apply to UK organisations?

It can. If you provide or deploy AI systems whose outputs are used in the EU, or you place AI systems on the EU market, you are likely in scope regardless of where you are headquartered. We can help you assess whether you are caught and what to prioritise.

Is there a UK AI Act?

The UK has so far taken a sector-led approach, with existing regulators issuing AI guidance under their existing remits. Legislative proposals continue to be debated. We track UK developments and can brief your board on what to watch for.

Can you help us respond to a public consultation?

Yes. We help organisations and coalitions craft credible, evidence-based consultation responses to UK, EU, and other consultations on AI and data.

Do you only work with UK organisations?

No. We work with organisations of every type and size in the UK, across Europe, and globally.
